Our Gas Fusion Welding Process

Cleaning, dismantling & testing
Each individual component received at our works is thoroughly cleaned, shotblasted and carefully dismantled, after being issued with a unique job number. This is then followed by FULL hydraulic pressure testing and non destructive crack detection to reveal the full extent of any damage.

Free Survey/Quotation
This essential information along with other survey data enables us to issue a full Survey/Quotation for our client, along with our recommendations and stating a firm cost for repair

Gas fusion welding process
The component then progresses through our gas fusion welding process, beginning with detailed preparation of the defect(s), before the casting is preheated prior to the welding process, in its own preheat oven where precise temperatures are set to ensure the correct fusion of material and proper stress relief.

Successful welding repair

This close up photo shows the machined surface of a marine cylinder head after a successful cast iron welding repair. On the surface you can identify the parent material surface, the weld interface and the weld material. Click on photo to enlarge.

Our fusion welding technique is approved by Lloyds Register EMEA and we are proud to offer classification certificates from all major Classification Societies, covering metallurgical analysis and pressure tests as and when required.

Final Testing
A full test procedure is carried out to establish a 100% repair.

Machining & fitting spares
This is then followed by full machining, complying with the manufacturer's tolerances. Spare parts can then be fitted at this stage (valve guides, seats etc.) which can be supplied by ourselves at cost or by our client.

Finishing
Final inspection and painting. Followed by packing and prompt dispatch.
